Day 6...tennis practice...

AJ 4 : NY 4
current mood: tired....

there isn't anything that's really interesting today in school. basically we had a talk by our principal and the teacher in charge of discipline. in NY we can wear any coloured shoes and socks unlike AJ where they have specific colours and white socks are compulsory. boys are to have short hair(not touching ears or collar), no colouring and no ear piercings. i'm an offender of 2 of those....my hair touches my collar even though my sides are still acceptable because i cut the sides short and i coloured my hair during the holidays.

after the talks we had a sample chemistry lecture which was conducted by Mrs Queenie Wong, HOD of Science a.k.a. David's mum. she gave us a brief overview of what will be taught in the next 3 months and reccomended some relevent textbooks. we then received a set of notes which we had to pay $0.20 for.(i just realized that there are blanks to fill in so i'll be going to the library tomorrow to get the neccessary info)

after chemistry we had the biology sample lecture. we had a brief overview on the core topics and optional topics in the 'a' level bio syllabus and also what we will be covering in the next 3 months. the lecture ended at 11.10am and i had no more lectures today but the gates only open at 12.15pm so i had to wait in school.

first, i went to the cafeteria with hui shan. then i went to the school library with some girls from my orientation group, yu ting and waye ning and yu ting's friend. they called me their "sister" because i hang out with girls (them) rather than guys. well, it's actually because the guys are no where in sight. i think they were having their economics lecture then. then i met shu yi and weiyu there and i managed to convince them to go home since the gates were opened. so i went home and had lunch and grabbed my tennis stuff.

i took the bus to yio chu kang tennis centre. as the bus passed by AJ, i noticed that the tennis court there was unoccupied which really irked me. i mean, i'm paying $3.50 an hour at the public courts while they can play for free but they aren't using the court? ok, so i met sc and we went to book a court for an hour first. somehow, we are the only ones in the centre using the tennis facilities. we just started playing when it started drizzling. at first it was ok as the drizzle made it cool. later, we realized that the wet floor made the ball skid on the floor and bounced low which made it pretty difficult to play. so we decided to work on my forehand. i couldn't really control my forehand so the ball tend to fly to the ends of the courts and sc had to pick the ball which made him pretty frustrated. but after some work, i realized what was wrong with my forehand and now i think i'm quite ready for the try-outs. while we were practicing, the lady at the counter who books the courts came out of the office and said something like "you only paid $3.50 and you want to play 2 hours?". i mean, we weren't wearing watches and there was absolutely no one else using the courts and it was still drizzling, can't she be nice? so sc paid for the hour we already played and then we left.

sc said he wanted to get a new overgrip which i also did because my white one has turned brown, so we went to amk to get overgrips. we first went to sportslink which only had a small selection of not really good but expensive overgrips. then we went to world of sports when we realzied that the amk branch doesn't even have a tennis section. we decided to get it another time and sat down at mr.bean and had drinks. i had the honeydew soya milk which hardly tasted of honeydew at all.

after that we went back. i went to the community centre near my house to look for the taekwondo instructor to get my black belt certificate which i had qualified for last year but was too busy to collect. he wasn't there yet so i walked towards the basketball court when i saw jinglun (i just noticed that he pierced his left ear) where he dragged me to play a game of bball (which i suck at because i can't dribble and my throwing is only accurate sometimes) with 3 members of the NYBBGT ( nanyang basketball girls team). we got trashed. after somemore bball, i went back to look for the instructor who i found sitting at the cafe. he didn't know that i was coming today so he didn't have the cert with him so he said he'll call me another day.

then i went home to have my dinner. dinner was rice, some seaweed soup and veggies with mushrooms and limpets(those small abalone-like thingys).

i feel that i have improved and should now be ready for the try-outs. (there weren't many guys who signed up and only some of them has tennis experience) i really thank sc for taking time out to practice with me.

well, we'll be having more sample lectures tomorrow and land training for dragonboat/canoeing tomorrow so i'll look foward to that. time to go off now. cya tomorrow! oyasumi nasai~
